Updated MacBook Pros, iPads, and Mac Pro All Reportedly Expected by Mid-November

Apple is set to release refreshed MacBook Pro models, new iPads, and the newly designed Mac Pro all by mid-November, according to French website MacGeneration [Google Translate]. The report shares target dates for each new product, with the new MacBook Pros with Intel's Haswell processors expected to be released on October 24 or 25, the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 on October 30 or 31, and the release of the Mac Pro expected on November 15.

The website's projection for a new line of MacBook Pros is somewhat likely, with both the 13-inch and 15-inch models showing up in benchmarks over the past couple of months as a release has seemed inevitable. The new line of laptops is expected boast improved battery life due to Intel's power-efficient Haswell processors, along with the more powerful "Iris" integrated graphics found in the chipset. Other potential features for the upcoming laptops include faster PCI Express-based flash storage, as well as faster 802.11ac "Gigabit" Wi-Fi.

Meanwhile, an expected release of the fifth-generation iPad and the second-generation iPad mini seems less likely on the given days of Ocotber 30 or 31, due to the iPad 4 and iPad mini launching on Friday, November 2 last year. Traditionally, Apple's major iOS devices have launched on the Friday of the week after the initial announcement, and thus it would appear more likely that the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 would launch on Friday, November 1. The next-generation iPad is expected to feature a thinner design, while the upcoming iPad mini is set to feature a high-resolution Retina display.

The projected November 15 release of Apple's radically redesigned Mac Pro does seem probable, as the company announced the device back in June at WWDC for a Fall 2013 release, with the expected day of release coming two weeks before the "Black Friday" holiday shopping date across the United States. The new Mac Pro features a compact cylindrical design, along with Ivy Bridge E Xeon processors, dual AMD FirePro graphics chips, and fast PCI Express-based flash storage among other professional-grade internals.

Apple is expected to unveil both the fifth-generation iPad and the second-generation iPad mini during an October 22 event that will also showcase other Apple products such as OS X Mavericks, the Mac Pro, and potentially may also include the announcement of a refreshed MacBook Pro line.

It should be noted that MacGeneration has a mixed track record on its rumor claims, although the site claims that the source for this report had previously accurately shared word of the 16 GB iPod touch released earlier this year. But one recent high-profile miss for the site was a September claim [Google Translate] that Apple's iPad and Mac media event would take place today, October 15.

Fix iOS 7 iTunes Store Crashing Issue On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

Solution 1

 

Go through Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. Please note, while this will remove your saved hotspots, it won’t purge any of your data.

Step 2: Voila; often, this is enough to prevent the crashing for some folks. Sure, it’s a bit of a pain in the rear having to take an extra turning before getting to the required content, but it will suffice until Apple comes through with something a tad more practical.

This simple, one-step fix that involves going to the Settings app on your home screen and navigating through Safari > Block Cookies > and selecting “From third parties and advertisers” only.

Solution 4

Step 1: Force-close all of your running apps.
Step 2: Sign out of your iTunes account, and then back in again by going to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID > Sign Out.
Step 3: Restart your device, and launch the iTunes Store app, which should now be crash-free.

The App Store is a goldmine of weird and wonderful creations, and although we see plenty of intuitive apps and wonderfully enticing games, sometimes an app comes along so novel that it just has to get a mention. If you’ve seen some of the official iPhone 5c cases, you’ll know that there’s one featuring quite a few circular holes on the back. In many ways, it could resemble a Connect 4 board, and thanks to the nous of one developer, the Hasbro classic has been remade to work in conjunction with the new case. Details after the break.

Although the holes in the case are found to the rear, one can simply flip the case back-to-front, which then facilitates a physical Connect 4 board. From there, competitors can enjoy the iconic title as if it were a real Connect 4 board, and although the original, touch-friendly title is still pretty good fun, this neat little case trick is a neat amalgam of classic and contemporary.

iPad 6 Will Feature 30 to 40 Percent More Pixels Than Current Retina Display iPad, Launching Next Year [Report]

It’s typical in today’s digital industry that we should begin talking about a product before its would-be predecessor has even hit the market, and although we’re fairly sure that Apple will be announcing a new iPad 5 at some point this fall, resident Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities already has the scoop on the iPad 6, in a note which was picked up by 9to5Mac.

Apparently, it will offer a resolution exceeding the current standard of Apple’s so-called Retina iPad panel, with 30-40% more pixels over the 9.7-inch diameter.

It feels almost disrespectful to the iPad 5 to begin talking about next year’s potential release, but in today’s fast-moving digital world, it’s something that has to be done. After all, it was only last year that Apple took the decision to release two iPads within a seven month period, and although the iPad 4 was a rather rushed, unrefined effort, the bloated nature of the tablet should be rectified with the iPad 5.

We already know that the fifth-gen model will likely take on the same, or similar form factor to the iPad mini, as well as packing a tidy spec upgrade with an improved, perhaps A7 processor and new camera. But if Kuo is on point with his forecasts for the iPad 6 – bearing in mind he has a fairly solid track record – we may soon be dazzled by an uber-sharp, higher-than-Retina resolution display.
The blogosphere has also been abuzz with reports suggesting that Apple may be toying with the idea of building a larger, 12.9-inch iPad, and while Kuo remains on the fence with regards to whether the device is real, he does believe that if the Cupertino is planning such a slate, it won’t hit the market next year.

 Kuo also believes that Apple may release a 12-inch, Retina-enabled MacBook Air, which would be thinner and lighter than the current models. Ever since the MacBook Pro got the customary Retina upgrade, the market has been waiting for the Air to follow suit, and although it was the first to get the Haswell upgrade back in the summer, the thinnest of the Apple notebook family still doesn’t offer that same dazzling display as its higher-end cousin.

There’s also suggestion of a cheaper iMac arriving at some point to help bolster flagging sales of the current gen, which arrived late last year.

Apple Predicted to Release Ultra-Slim 12-Inch MacBook with Retina Display in Mid-2014

Apple may be planning to release a 12-inch MacBook with an all-new design and high-resolution Retina Display in the middle of 2014, according to KGI Securities anaylst Ming-Chi Kuo.


Specifically, the new MacBook is expected to feature a clamshell form factor even thinner than the current MacBook Air, and may debut at a lower-price point than the current Retina MacBook Pro line due to an improving yield rate. While Kuo stops short of calling the new model a replacement for the current MacBook Air line, his description of the model suggests that it would indeed supplant Apple's current ultra-slim notebook line.

We expect the unprecedented 12” model will boast both the portability of the 11” model, and productivity of the 13” model. The high resolution display will also offer the outstanding visual experience of the Retina MacBook Pro. The offering will likely be lighter and slimmer than the existing MacBook Air to further highlight ease of portability in the cloud computing era. We think the form factor will showcase a much improved clamshell structure, and that it will redefine laptop computing once again following the milestone created by the MacBook Air.

Kuo's claims match with a report from NPD DisplaySearch analysts earlier this week claiming that Apple is planning to introduce a new 12-inch MacBook Air next year. That new model was predicted to use a high-resolution 2304 x 1440 display

Both rumors also fall in line with earlier reports that Apple is set to move to IGZO displays for many of its future products, allowing for higher-resolution displays with lower power consumption.

Kuo has generally been quite accurate with his predictions over the past several years, including accurately outlining many of the details of Apple's 2013 launch plans as far back as January. Other accurate predictions have included the introduction of a "third MacBook line" that arrived in the form of Retina MacBook Pro models and the discontinuation of the 17-inch MacBook Pro last year.

iPad 6 with 30-40% Higher Pixel Density Expected in 2014

Countering earlier reports about the possibility of Apple launching a larger, 12.9-inch iPad next year, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states in a new research note that the company will instead release a new sixth-generation 9.7-inch iPad with 30-40% higher pixel density than seen in both the current and upcoming full-sized iPad.

Contrary to speculation that next year’s iPad next year may come in a 12” form, or larger, we think it will not change from the current 9.7” format as we think a 12” iPad would not provide a good mobility experience given today’s technology limitations.

In light [of] advancing Oxide and a-Si technologies, the PPI of iPad 6, which we expect to come out at end-2014, will exceed that of 2013’s iPad 5 by 30-40%, which will offer more competent visuals.

In his research note, Kuo also touches on the third-generation iPad mini, which would be expected to launch alongside the higher-resolution iPad 6. Kuo believes that the second-generation iPad mini expected to be introduced at Apple's media event later this month will adopt a Retina display and that there will be no further changes to resolution for the third-generation iPad mini next year.

Apple is expected to unveil both the fifth-generation iPad and the second-generation iPad mini during an October 22 event that will also showcase other Apple products such as Mavericks and the Mac Pro.

Apple Looking to Launch Lower-Cost iMac in 2014

Apple may be preparing to release a cheaper model of the iMac in 2014, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states in a new research note. The analyst believes that sales of recent iMac models have failed to meet expectations and that Apple may look to introduce a lower-cost option in order to bolster sales in critical foreign markets.

Our surveys indicate that Apple’s last iMac model, released at end-2012 with an all-new-design, shipped fewer-than-expected units in the worldwide market. We think the price was set too high and the model failed to make an impact in critical foreign markets like China. We thus think Apple may offer a budget iMac model to push shipments among non-US markets in the face of solid competition from Levono (CN), HP (US) and other rivals.

We are optimistic that a budget iMac would boost overall iMac shipments to grow 10-20% YoY in 2014.

After a major redesign last year, the iMac was given a surprise refresh last month as Apple updated the line of desktops based on Intel's Haswell processors, faster PCI Express-based flash storage options, and new 802.11ac Wi-Fi capabilities. Currently, the entry-level iMac 21.5 inch iMac starts at $1,299, while the 27-inch iMac starts $1,799. Both models are $100 more expensive than the previous generation iMacs, which debuted in 2011.

Step 1: Navigate to, and launch one of the stock applications on your iPhone. If you don’t already know, the stock apps are things like weather, YouTube, stocks, settings etc (any that come as part of iOS).
Step 2: When the app is launched, press and hold the Power button located at the top of the device until the ‘Slide to power off’ appears.
Step 3: Press and hold the iPhone home button. Keep the button depressed until the Slide to power off slider disappears and the application quits back to Springboard.
Step 4: Voila! Your home button is now re-calibrated and should be more responsive for you.

Apps on iPhone 5s Reportedly Crashing Twice as Often as on iPhone 5c and iPhone 5

According to a study by mobile application mangement platform Crittercism, iOS apps are twice as likely to crash on the new iPhone 5s as they are when running on the iPhone 5 and 5c, reports AllThingsD.

The app crash rates on the iPhone 5s are attributed to the unforseen issues that developers have had transitioning to the new internals of the iPhone 5s, such as rewriting drivers and code for the phone's 64-bit A7 chip and M7 coprocessor. Apple notably began allowing developers to submit 64-bit apps for the iPhone 5s on September 16, just four days before the launch of the device itself.

“Anytime there is new hardware or software release, we see issues,” Crittercism CEO Andrew Levy said in an interview. “Inevitably, over time, those issues get resolved.”

Levy said that perhaps the reason the iPhone 5s is seeing more crashes than the equally new iPhone 5c is that, while developers were able to check their apps for compatibility with iOS 7 during several months of beta testing, the new hardware wasn’t available ahead of time. The iPhone 5s packs a new 64-bit A7 chip and an M7 coprocessor, while the 5c is nearly identical, internally, to the iPhone 5.

However, the company compliments Apple for releasing two updates in quick succession for iOS 7, stating that the company is "doing a really good job of addressing these issues as they come up.” Since its launch last month, a number of noteworthy apps have been redesigned or optimized for the iPhone 5s, with more developers stating that they will update their apps to accommodate the new processor in the near future.

The tablet itself is expected to be announced on October 22nd in a Nokia event, which coincidentally is set to be the same date that Apple is expected to be announcing the new iPads – the iPad 5 and the Retina display laden iPad mini 2. That may unfortunately mean that Nokia’s device gets lost in the iPad-mayhem, but it shouldn’t. Rumors point to the 2520 packing a 1080p display and a quad-core processor from Qualcomm. Priced at $499, the tablet doesn’t seem to be too expensive on the face of things, and will reportedly be available in black, white, red and that lovely cyan color, the one which you see above.
The price point also speaks about the tablet’s OS under the hood, too. We’re certain it won’t be running Windows 8 / 8.1, and will be running Windows RT. Yup, the same OS from yesteryear which Microsoft has been struggling with to get in people’s hands.
All the focus is understandably going to be on Apple’s new tablets over the coming weeks, but if this render is any indication, they’ll need to go some way to be a nicer looking tablet than what Nokia has up its sleeve.
